A Family-Friendly Introduction to Sea Fishing
Our 2-hour mackerel trip is our shortest fishing trip and a great introduction to sea fishing from Padstow. It’s particularly popular with families, children and first-time anglers. No previous fishing experience is needed — we provide the tackle and bait, and our skipper and crew will show you what to do.
From Padstow Harbour, we usually have a 20–30 minute steam to the fishing grounds along the North Cornwall coast. Where we fish depends on the conditions and where the skipper believes gives us the best chance on the day.
Mackerel are traditionally targeted using feather rigs at different depths as we look for feeding fish. Lee and Gav have spent years fishing these waters and use their local knowledge and the conditions on the day to decide where and how we fish.
As with all sea fishing, catches vary from trip to trip. For many of our younger guests, learning to use the tackle, feeling that first bite and catching their own fish is what makes the trip memorable.
Any mackerel you catch and are permitted to keep can be taken home to enjoy fresh.

Our 2-hour mackerel trip is a great introduction to sea fishing for families, children and first-time anglers. No experience is needed — our skipper and crew will get you set up, show you what to do and be there to help throughout the trip.
You’ll be fishing from the open deck of a purpose-built fishing boat. It’s a hands-on experience rather than a sightseeing cruise, and the boat will naturally move with the sea. Conditions at sea can also feel very different from those inside Padstow Harbour.
Come prepared for the sea
Warm layers, waterproofs and sensible footwear are always recommended — even when it looks sunny in Padstow.
